Water in a basement is almost never a basement problem. It is a grading problem, a downspout problem, or a low spot in the yard that has been holding water against the foundation for years.
We start by working out where the water is actually coming from and where it wants to go. Then we build the grade or the drain that gets it away from the house — and we put the yard back the way we found it when we are done.
If you are getting water inside, take a photo of where it comes in and another of the ground outside that wall on the next hard rain. Those two pictures usually tell us most of what we need before we even walk the property.
- French drain design, trenching and installation
- Foundation regrading to pull water away from the house
- Buried downspout extensions and pop-up emitters
- Catch basins and surface inlets in low spots
- Swale shaping to route water across the property

French Drains & Yard Drainage: common questions
Why is water getting into my basement?
In most cases it is not a basement problem at all — it is a grading problem, a downspout problem, or a low spot in the yard that has been holding water against the foundation. Water that collects beside a wall will eventually find a way through it. That is why we start by working out where the water comes from and where it wants to go, rather than treating the wall.
How do I know whether I need a French drain or regrading?
It depends on whether the water is sitting on the surface or moving through the ground. Surface water pooling in a low spot is often solved by reshaping the grade or cutting a swale. Water that saturates the ground and moves toward the foundation usually needs a French drain to intercept and carry it away. Plenty of properties need some of both, and that is what the walk-through is for.
What can I do before you come out?
Take two photos: one of where the water shows up inside, and one of the ground outside that same wall during a hard rain. Those two pictures usually tell us most of what we need before we have even walked the property.
Will my yard be wrecked afterwards?
No. Trench restoration is part of the job, not an extra. We backfill, replace topsoil and seed the trench line so the lawn comes back.
What time of year is best for drainage work?
Any time the ground is workable. Autumn is a good moment if you can plan ahead, because every low spot that ponds in October becomes an ice patch in January. But if water is getting inside, do not wait for a season.
